Drop-In Sittings

The drop-in sittings are an opportunity to support your practice and sit together with other sangha members in a relaxed atmosphere.

Monday and Wednesday drop-in sittings are appropriate for all levels. No need to attend orientation first. The Friday drop-in is recommended for students with some experience because there is no practice leader.

Mondays: Sitting 5:30 - 6:15 pm, discussion 6:15 - 6:45 pm
Wednesdays: Sitting 7:00 - 7:30 pm, dharma talk 7:35 - 8:30 pm
Fridays: Unguided sitting 5:45-6:30 pm

On Wednesdays, the sitting is followed by a dharma talk by an IPV or guest teacher. Click here for Wednesday Dharma Talk Schedule. If no teacher is available, or the talk takes place on a day other than Wednesday, there will be a regular open sitting led by a practice leader with a discussion afterwards.

On Mondays, there is an optional discussion time for those who would like to participate. A teacher or practice leader will be present to facilitate the evening. (Once every other month, the dharma discussion is replaced by a newcomer orientation as discussed below.)

On Fridays, there is no practice leader and no formal discussion.

There is no fixed fee for the Monday and Friday sittings, but an opportunity to practice dana, or giving, to the Center. On Wednesdays, the suggestion contribution is $7-25 which is split 60/40 between the teacher and the center.

Orientations

Orientations are on the first Monday of every other month and begin with the open sitting at 5:30pm.

Upcoming dates:
Feb 6, Apr 3, Jun 5, 2017

The orientation will give you guidance for the silent meditation at the beginning, then provide an overview of Insight PV history, mission, and guiding principles, as well as the basics of insight meditation and sitting posture.

You do not need to attend an Orientation before participating in other events. Feel free to attend any Monday or Wednesday open sitting or many of our retreats or courses (many are labeled "suitable for beginners" or "suitable for all levels"). When you're ready you can then supplement your learning with an Orientation.

Accessibility
In the interest of making our Center accessible to all, we ask that you refrain from using scented body products. In addition, the Center has an assisted listening system, and is wheelchair accessible (closest elevator is at the West entrance).

This Buddhist-oriented path has proven successful with addicts and alcoholics. Appropriate for anyone in recovery or interested in recovery. Prior experience with meditation is not required.
